Day 2: Josey

Today ended up being a very productive day, with progress in adobe illustrator made much more quickly than yesterday. I began by finishing up the layers on my diorama. The initial layers I had planned fit together, but I was not happy with the simplicity of the piece, so I added more details including an additional float plan, a line of trees, and some grass. I also added a sky to help the snowy top of Mount Denali to stand out. All of these additional layers will give the diorama more depth, but it will also give people more to look at and help keep people engaged. Although I am a little concerned about how thick it could end up being wiht 8 layers, there are ways I could connect certain layers if necessary, but nonetheless I hope it works out!

What the layers look like stacked together
After feeling like I was in a good place with my diorama I decided to switch to working on my shadowbox. This was more difficult for me because I still did not have as clear of an idea, but as I got to work I was able to piece things together and continue to build on my design. I started by roughly placing some stars and a moon, then focused on creating a skyline that I liked, since that is the most prominent part of the shadowbox. Some inspiration I had found showed multiply layers of buildings, which I wanted to mimic, so I work on construction cranes and rough blocky buildings in the background wich would be mostly covered by the prominent and more detailed Houston skyline. I also added in two dogs and trees and a reflection. Once this basic design was doen I began to experiment with placement of windows in the buildings so that light will be able to shine through and make it a little more bright.

Overall I am very happy with the progress I made today and I will hopefully be able to continue to add details to my shadowbox and maybe start printing!
