Day 8: Ariana

we still have one more day of J-term but our projects are nearly completed. I was a bit behind everybody so I'll have to wait till tomorrow to assemble my pieces. We started the day off by unbinding our glued frames and taking them to the sanding station. we used the roughest sandpaper and slowly worked our way to the smoother ones. and once we were done sanding the wood was very smooth, pitty you couldn't feel it.

After the sanding, I cut out the chipboard and tested to see if it fit. fortunatly it did.

This is a picture of my frame after i've trimmed the tape. the reason being this is so when we're sanding  the sander won't damage the acrylic and when we're finishing the wood the finisher won't get on the acrylic.

we applied 2 coats of finishing oil. the finishing oil is supposed to enhance the woods color and protect it from stains and such. Although it may not seem like a full day's worth of work sanding took quite a while and waiting for the frames to dry also took a while. And in the waiting times, we worked on other parts of the dioramas. like cutting out the chipboard, which goes behind the dioramas, cutting the front paper frame, which hides the imperfections on the first layer of the dioramas, and trimming the tape on the acrylic.
