Day 4: Sutton

Today was quite eventful. In the first hour, I used the laser cutter to cut out my safari shadow box. Of course, there were a few mistakes and corrections that needed to be made once I saw the final layers (especially in regard to the watering hole). I spent some time redesigning before we left to go paper shopping.

At the art store, I picked out different shades of blue for my underwater diorama as well as some fun, sparkly paper for the mermaid tail. I am deciding between sparkly light gold, sparkly dark gold, sparkly coral, and textured coral. Please comment if you have any suggestions or else this is really going to test my indecisiveness. The amount of paper we ended up buying was equivalent to the amount of times we were asked if we wanted to get in line at a different cashier (clearly, these people didn't understand we were a group - not a bunch of individual teens with a shared desire to suddenly buy 24 sheets of colored paper). We left with what seemed like twenty pounds of paper which I was in charge of carrying because I obviously have the biggest muscles in the group (sorry Aiden).

In the afternoon, I continued with the edits for my safari shadowbox. I was really struggling in designing the watering hole. I was told by Mr Grisbee that it looked "unnatural” and honestly, I agreed. He shared some great tips and suggestions and introduced me to a helpful Adobe Illustrator tool. After some time, I ended up designing a really sick looking watering hole. I am glad Mr. Grisbee pushed me to do something different because I like the new version so much more. Seriously, if anyone needs someone to design their watering hole, here is my email: suttonwalsh@sickwateringholes.com.

I then needed to cut out the revised layers for my safari shadow box. Unfortunately, the line for laser cutting was very full. When it finally came to my turn, I was a complete stress case because I had a lot to print out and people were waiting on me. I worked as quickly as I could and was happy to find that my laser cutting skills had improved significantly since this morning. Then I started to feel the pressure: Josey kept walking in and out breathing really heavily, Mr. Grisbee was asking how much longer I needed, the laser cutter app thing crashed, Tyler, Aiden, and Ariana had their faces pressed against the glass window with great frustration. All I needed was Gordon Ramsay to come in and tell me that my food tasted disgusting when I finally finished.  And guess what? It looked so good. I was so proud! Now I will start cutting the foam board. Bye!
