Day 5: Josey

Today was an somewhat stressful day, but it was also a very exciting day. Since all the layers of my shadowbox had been printed out and perfected, it was time to start assembling. This required delicately gluing the foam core to the edge of the layers and trying to line the edges up as precisely as possible. As someone who is not very artistic and not generally a perfectionist, I found this quite difficult, but eventually I figured out the most effective way to make this happen, and a few layers later my shadowbox was really starting to come together. Although there are still a few imperfections in the foam core, these will hopefully be covered by the wood fame and I have confidence you won't be able to tell. After assembling the exciting part came when I was able to put my LED strand behind the shadowbox and see what it looked like lit up! It was very entertaining to go through all the colors and see what looked best, but it was entertaining to be able to play around with the lights. Since my shadowbox was done for now, it was time to turn my full focus to my diorama!

Mostly assembled shadowbox
I started by cutting some more foam core strips, so once it was printed I would be ready to assemble. Although there was a little drama there, because it turns out I need a decent amount of practice with an exacto knife I had a good number of strips cut and was ready to try and print my diorama. While I was printing I was really happy with the results because the scene started to come together with all of the naturesk colors. There did end up being a few mistakes that I had to fix, but once those were done I had a nice idea of what my diorama was going to look like. The mellow and more dark colors give the scene a peaceful but pretty feeling,, while the bright spots of red from the floatplanes add some nice color to the scene. I still know there are some additions that can be made to tie the scene together and add more elements, but so far I am happy with how the project is turning out and hopefully it only gets better from here!
